A cross-sectional study evaluated the clinical characteristics of rGERD and their prevalence in Indian patients with symptoms suggestive of GERD and no response to PPIs for 8 weeks.1
Heartburn and regurgitation were prevalent in 92% and 96% of patients, respectively, making them the most dominant symptoms in the population.1

Hiatal hernia was prevalent in 48% of patients while being more prominent in ERD cases (53.7%) than NERD cases (18%).1
Histopathological alterations suggested distal esophagus inflammation in 56% of cases, with basal cell hyperplasia in 54% and elongation of papillae in 21%.
