Dipotassium oxalate and diode laser for dentinal hypersensitivity

Vantej_Innovative Relief_banner image
Dentin hypersensitivity (DH) is a widespread dental issue characterized by sharp pain due to exposed dentinal tubules (DT) responding to stimuli. Effective management involves occluding these tubules to reduce fluid movement, which triggers pain. This study helps to analyze the efficiency of an 810 nm diode laser in conjunction with a mouthwash containing 1.4% dipotassium oxalate in the occlusion of DT.
Methods
Samples:
40 dentin samples from extracted human third molars were used.
Groups:
arrow image Group 1: Control (no treatment).
arrow image Group 2: Dipotassium oxalate mouthwash applied for 5 days.
arrow image Group 3: Mouthwash + 810 nm diode laser.
arrow image Group 4: Diode laser alone.
Assessment:
Tubule occlusion was analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
Results
Control Group:
Limited DT occlusion (2.76% mean occlusion).

Mouthwash Group:
Significant DT occlusion (97.06%).
Green circle represents the occluded tubule whereas, open tubules (represented with red circle) are more in number

Laser Group:
High occlusion (99.58%).
SEM micrograph of dentin surface after treatment with an 810 nm diode laser. Red circle represents the partially open tubule whereas, occluded tubules (represented with green circle) are more in number

Combination Group:
Highest occlusion (99.91%), with no open tubules observed.
SEM micrograph of dentin surface after application of a combination of a mouthwash with a 1.4% dipotassium oxalate and an 810 nm diode laser. No open tubules can be observed.

Vantej Long Lasting Relief

Vantej, enriched with the Calcium Sodium Phosphosilicate (CSPS) molecule, is a highly effective occluding desensitizer. It provides relief from dentinal hypersensitivity caused by enamel damage due to attrition, abrasion, and erosion.
